My intentions
I chose to use the theme of “microscopic” as my starting point as I was interested in creating texture through very small objects and creatures such as insects. I will experiment in multimedia by the use of acetate, paints and random materials that I find. I will also be using first hand direct observation such as charcoal, sketches and painting to enhance my work.
I will begin with creating a visual mood board of images from the Internet for inspiring and also I will include aspects of my theme by searching through books and various websites to find different aspects of multi media, by using charcoal, paints and other forms of texture. I will also take my own photographs of macro and microscopic interpretations from my local area and when I go on holiday to Tenerife. I will then make several first hand observations of my photographs.
I will incorporate texture and tone into my work by making the different pages into a complex backing of unusual material to explain how certain objects can seem like something else when up-close like macro insects can look metallic so I will use a background to replicate metallic.
I then will research and present the works of various artists and photographers such as, Alex Wild, Rob Kesseler and Diane Nelson for inspiration into the world of microscopic imagery I plan to investigate these artists in further detail as they all have their own unique style. This will allow me to experiment in different ways of presenting my work such as using different methods such as mono printing.
I will explore the use of different printing techniques and objects to print on such as the way Rob Kesseler prints his work on china pottery. Alex Wild will also inspire me because I will attempt to take macro images of insects and other small creatures.
To take my photographs I will use a series of lens spacing rings and macro filters to ensure I can focus in on very small objects with my DSLR.
I will present my final pieces on a large piece of wood to show the contrast of the small subject of the photograph and the large old piece of wood, this will also be inspired by Rob Keseler because of his unusual printing objects.
